D2 Creative has been retained by Every Child By Two (ECBT) to develop three Public Service Announcements (PSAs) on immunization. The PSAs will focus on educational messages on the topics of timely immunization to prevent vaccine-preventable diseases; vaccine safety and the imperative for private providers to participate in state and local immunization registries. Sound bites from former First Lady Mrs. Carter, co-Founder of ECBT, and Dr. Walt Orenstein of Emory University, will be featured.
ECBT is a non-profit organization founded by Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Bumpers, former First Lady of Arkansas, to raise awareness of the importance of immunization by the age of two. It was created in 1991 in response to the 1989-1991 measles epidemic that resulted in 55,000 reported cases and 150 deaths. The organization has since launched nationwide campaigns to promote vaccination against measles and other preventable diseases for infants. Both Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Bumpers are known for lifelong dedication to issues affecting women and children.
Mrs. Carter and Mrs. Bumpers addressed a closing plenary session on the success of immunization partnership after fifteen years, and the challenges that remain, at this year's 40th National Immunization Conference (NIC) in Atlanta, Georgia, hosted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in March 2006.
"More than two million American children are not up-to-date on their vaccines; yet vaccines are free and available to all children in America. It is so important that parents keep track of their children's immunizations timely to prevent health risks...Registering in the state's immunization registry is one way to do so," Mrs. Carter commented.
Regarding the selection, John Lau, President of D2 Creative, noted, "We are privileged to be part of this initiative to promote infant immunization. It is important work, and aligns closely with our mission to help promote better health through education."
